When I was in 2nd grade, I had a crush on a girl named Angela.
Angela was sweet. And pretty. And fluent in Spanish. If only she were fluent in English, too. Her friend Maria had to translate for us.
Now we were never an item or anything. But I did look up her skirt every recess. Isn't that all there was to dating back then, anyway?

But this isn't about that. What I'm trying to say is, I want to learn Spanish.

I took French in high school.

That's probably not even correct. 3 years wasted.

My roommate, Matthias (from Kansas City) is fluent. He speaks to a lot of the guests that come through the Soup Kitchen (Chicago's a fairly large hub for Spanish speaking immigrants). Did I mention he's from Kansas City? And he's white. Now, I'm not exactly Hispanic, but I've been in San Antonio long enough to warrant the need. Sometimes I attempt to chime into conversations with the little Spanish I know. "Si" "Que Pasa?" "Hasta manana" Shit like that. Unfortunately, I end up feeling more embarassed when I try to explain that I don't know anymore than that -- "No no no. No habla Espangol."
I need to get on this shit.

I like taking showers. Makes me feel like a new person.
They could, however, be much, much better.

Washing my hair is annoying. It's either stringy or matted. Strands fall out and get in my mouth. Sometimes I run out of shampoo or conditioner, and have to make due with the dime-sized droplet I've got left. Don't even get me started on drying it.

I come up with the best songs and ideas in the shower, which unfortunately are forgotten before I redrawn the curtain. I need a waterproof recorder. Not just a recorder, a badass sound system. Who wouldn't want to bass out while washing their ass? I want the porcelain tiles to jump off the walls.

Running out of hot water mid-session is a total buzzkill as well.

Unless you've got an olympic-sized stall, sex in the shower isn't nearly as fantastic as it might seem. Shuffling into a new position in an area fit for Mandela isn't the easiest task. Better have some towels handy, because chances are you've practically flooded your floor. Oh, and watch where you're grabbing; don't want to pull down the curtain rod.

At least we're past the days of warming your bathwater on the stove.

Sidenote 1: I really, really want to learn how to dance.

Too many of my conversations start like this:

Person: "[Standard greeting]. Mars. How are you?\How have you been?"
Me: "Fine\Good\Alright..."

After that, I start to lose interest in the conversation, because chances are I'm not doing just fine, good, or alright. I might be great (but I'd never say unless life has been unusually benign); I might be terrible (but I'd never tell anyone right away).

I don't know what I want. More than a networked group of acquaintances; that's for sure. I think I just miss the comfort of familiar faces, the ability to let loose.

Feel free to offer, but the opportunity has to create itself. I can't force that kind of connection.
